Chakras can be defined as pools or wheels of energy found in particular points of the body as per Buddhist beliefs. They govern all our psychological traits, and if properly utilized, they can significantly contribute to overall health and well-being.

These seven chakras that align the spine include the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra, the heart chakra, throat chakra, third eye and the crown chakra.

In today’s busy and demanding society, it can be very easy to ignore the state of your chakras.

This neglect can quickly lead to emotional, physical and spiritual illness.

But how can you achieve a healthy lifestyle by balancing your chakras? The following part describes simple techniques that you could use every day for opening your chakras.

1. Eat Chakra Nourishing Foods

Every food you put in your body will have a direct impact on all your energy centers. As such, strengthening the chakras requires a healthy diet comprised of different types of food groups.

There is a reason; why spirituality is associated with organic and all natural foods. Since these kinds of foods contain no preservatives or processed chemicals, the body readily accepts them and puts them to good use.
Whole Food Diet
As such, incorporating green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and kale in your everyday meals is guaranteed to open up your chakras. For a substantial lunch or dinner, it is recommended that you couple the greens with potatoes, carrots, beets and radishes.

Even grass-fed meat is acceptable but only in moderate amounts. Overindulging in meat may eventually lead to blocking up of some chakras.

As a general rule, always ensure you keep your body hydrated all throughout the day by regularly drinking water and fruit juices. Eight glasses of water every day will significantly help in opening your chakras. Some herbal teas are also very beneficial.

When you feel a strong urge to grab a snack, make sure you grab a fruit as opposed to greasy, fatty junk foods. Mangoes, melons, berries, coconuts, and oranges are not only perfect for opening your chakras, but they can also be found at the nearest grocery store.

Make sure you indulge the foodie inside you by seasoning your meals with a vast array of recommended herbs and spices. Adding a little paprika, chives, pepper, cinnamon, cumin and turmeric to your meals is a very fun way of opening the energy centers. If you are more adventurous in the kitchen, then thyme, sage, basil, cilantro and poppy seeds are also excellent for you.

2. Exercise the Chakras

Chakra therapy is a powerful and useful tool that has helped many find their center and transform their lifestyles. Although the chakra system is highly complex, balancing these points is crucial to achieving a higher consciousness and spiritual growth. Here are a few easy exercises that will help you opening your chakras.

Qi Gong is an elaborate set breathing techniques accompanied by movements to facilitate the flow of life force through your body. With this exercises you can focus your chi at any point in your body, thus you are also able to target and heal each chakra individually.
Qi Gong - Opening Your Root Chakra
When working on your root chakra, for instance, you can do the breathing squat exercise from the Code of the Natural:

  • Just stand with your legs about hip-width apart.
  • With your arms form a circle in front of you as if holding a big medicine ball.
  • Now breath in and then while breathing out, squat down.
  • On the way up breath in again.
  • Repeat this for ten times.

Yoga is another eastern spiritual practice that allows you to access your energy centers. The exercises in yoga are called asanas. Again for each chakra, many asanas will also help you transform your issues on the physical or psychological level.

For instance, hip opening asanas like the Wide-Stance Forward Bend and the Seated Bound Angle Pose are ideal for balancing the sacral chakra.

3. Meditation and Mudras

Meditations and Mudras are widely used in many regions of the world to gain a deeper sense of spirituality, peace, tranquility and well being. These practices involve the use of sounds, gestures, and prolonged poses.

When you are stressed and frustrated, your chakras can get blocked and leave you feeling down.

Meditation is a very efficient remedy to all these issues since it helps you focus on understanding yourself as well as opening your energy centers.

Meditation works by training your mind to induce a state of consciousness. It is comparable to working out in a gym, only this time, you are working out your mind, not your body.

Although it may prove difficult for a beginner to master the art of meditation on the first attempt, it only takes a bit of practice.

You can begin by sitting still with your legs crossed and focusing on an empty mind.

It definitely won’t be easy to hold the position for hours, but concentrating on your breath will help the process along.

Mudras are gestures that are designed to cultivate a deeper or higher sense of awareness. There are plenty of mudras out there that possess unique symbolism using your hands, fingers, and feet.
Rudra Mudra - Opening Your Solar Plexus Chakra
For example, the Rudra Mudra can be used to focus on your solar plexus chakra. Here you place your index and your ring fingertip on your thumb while keeping your middle finger and your pinky as straight as you possibly can.

Performing mudras will super-charge your meditation, help you opening your chakras and keep them balanced all of the time.
